Comparing Hospitals
Medicare has an online Hospital Compare tool to provide information on how well
hospitals care for patients with certain medical conditions or for specific surgical
procedures. The site also includes results from a patient survey about the quality
of care received during recent hospital stays.
This information can help you compare the quality of care provided by different
hospitals in your area. Talk to your doctor about how this information can help
you choose a hospital for your care. Also remember to check your plan benefits and
choose providers that participate with your plan or network.
Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other members of the
Hospital Quality Alliance: Improving Care Through Information (HQA). The information
on the website comes from hospitals that have agreed to submit quality information
for Hospital Compare to make public.
